VoIP Spear operates by continually running tests between servers -- either hosted by us on on your own network -- and your endpoints. These lightweight tests are a non-intrusive but powerful method for monitoring that captures the following data:

  • Latency: this is the time it takes (usually measure in milliseconds) for packets to travel across the internet to their destination
  • Packet Loss: percentage of packets that get lost during transmission
  • Jitter: the consistency of your network quality

From these characteristics, we calculate MOS (Mean Opinion Score), an industry standard score which rates your network quality between 1 (bad) and 5 (good).

We then present this data to you in clear, visual dashboards so you can understand your network quality at a glance.
